Q4 - Linguist - most people

So with C, we don't have to match up the some and most with the stim, right?

Thats right. Notice that none of the answer choices give us a most statement like the stimulus did, but we do get the idea of a majority not being able to do something. (D) gives us a people who most enjoy....which is not the same concept of course.

So while it would be wonderful to have that matchup, this answer choice still fits the bill.

The stimulus talks about how a majority of people cannot state the particulars of an action they can deem correct/incorrect.

(C) fits this perfect with the idea that some people can tell something, yet the majority of people cannot tell the particulars of why this is the case.

That's exactly right Timmy!

For others who might have questions on some of the incorrect answers, here you go!

The principle we would like illustrated is that:
"Most people can make a determination of something, even though most of them cannot specify the relavent rules."

Incorrect Answers

(A) incorrectly describes two different tasks and suggests that while some people are able of accomplishing one, they are not also able to accomplish the other.
(B) incorrectly relates two different groups and says that one has more knowledge than the other.
(D) incorrectly relates the second task to the first. It should be that the second is the means by which the first task should be accomplished. In this case the second task (vividly describing the details) is the recollection of the first task (most enjoying their journeys).
(E) reverses the direction of the principle. It should be that they do not know the rules, though they are able to play chess.

Hope that helps!

So even though in the stimulus it says "Most people can," it can be interpreted as "Some people can"? I thought the percentage or meanings are different so they are two different things and eliminated D...but maybe it's the best among the choices and that's why "Some" here is acceptable?

Thank you

(I'm assuming you were referring to C, not D)

Yes, if "most" people can do something, then "some" people can do something.

If most dogs like cheese, then some dogs like cheese.

Some: 1-100%
Most: 51-100%

But ultimately the most vs. some thing in this problem isn't the issue really being tested.

How did you describe the Principle to yourself in the original stimulus? What were you looking for in the answer choices?

I wanted something like "You can IDENTIFY / RECOGNIZE that something is X, but you can't EXPLAIN why something is X."

It doesn't look like anything else matches up with those key concepts.
