Q4

I do not understand how the answer is C. I chose D and understand that it is not the best answer but i feel it is better than C.

This is an identification question, which means the right answer will come directly from the passage. (C) tells us that some Asian American lit has been characterized as concerned with conflicts between different age groups. This comes from lines 4-6: that Asian American poetry from Hawaii is often characterized as dealing with generational conflict.

(D) is not listed as one of the two ways it's characterized. The other (go back to lines 4-6 again) is that it "portrays a model multicultural paradise." This could have been the right answer, too. But (D) isn't there, nor is (A), (B) or (E).

Hope this helps!

Don't lines 12-13 support A?

Read carefully: he does NOT do so at the expense of...a local sensibility.

Besides, that part is not about how Asian American poetry from Hawaii is characterized.

I am not sure why (E) is not right. Lum's literature says it is "equally important to have "a sense of new family" in this new land of Hawaii" (line 27)

(E) tied to a search for a new sense of family in a new land. This is almost exactly the same thing as the cited line. Lum is an Asian American from Hawaii who produces literature. What's the problem here?

I do see how (C) is supported, but (E) is not wrong unless you are talking about all the Asian Americans from Hawaii except for Lum .
