Q4

by hyewonkim89 Thu Oct 03, 2013 7:41 pm

I was down to (A) and (E) and was able to eliminate (E) because I didn't think the passage was "analyzing the impact" of Whatley's suggestions.

I for some reason didn't really like the word "serious" in the answer choice (A) and that's why I was a bit hesitant to pick it.

Will someone please explain in detail of all the answer choices?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Hye,

(A) takes off from the first sentence, which describes "the growing problem of bankruptcy among small farms." That's enough to be labelled "serious"; it is, after all, a growing problem.

A. Not sure that I’m ready to attribute “innovative” and “serious” to the author. Keep and move on.
B. No, we’re looking at the strengths only of one trend.
C. No, it is more about promoting one methodology than it is about criticizing another.
D. Disadvantages are never discussed. Wrong.
E. “tradition-driven” industry is never mentioned, we can’t make this inference.

A by POE. Going back to the text "serious" is supported in the first paragraph--the author describes a growing problem of bankruptcy. We can infer that the approach was innovative, because it is "comprehensive" and "counter" to this trend. Good enough!
