Q5 - Rats fed high doses of artificial sweetener

by jewels0602 Sat Sep 20, 2014 3:32 pm

I'm having a hard time understanding why B is the answer (I incorrectly chose A).

A: My understanding was that urine proteins in rats work with the sweetener to form the crystals, and if mice don't have that protein then it would make sense that they don't get bladder cancer, since the crystals that are toxic and (presumably?) contribute to cancer aren't there.

Maybe I shouldn't have made that assumption?

Is B the answer because the cells regenerate too quickly and so they aren't as impervious to the crystals' toxicity?

Also, this forum is amazing! Thank you for existing!
