Q5

In this question we're asked about the relationship between two parts of the passage. While the question didn't have to do this, it's unsuprising that the two parts are from different sides of the scale.

The first quote mentioned--which comes later in the passage--states that lawyers should be concerned with whether the defendant is actually innocent, and not defend him or her if not.

The second quote is from earlier in the passage. There we hear that lawyers should simply defend their clients, and leave judgment of innoncence to the courts.

How do these relate? In short, they're opposing points!

Based on that, we can eliminate most answers.

(A) is wrong since the two opinions do have a significant relationship.

(B) is correct. The first opinion is the author's, and it's in opposition to the earlier quote.

(C) suggests there's a hypothetical in the first quote - not true! And, the two quotes definitely don't support each other!

(D) is contradicted - the quotes are not in agreement.

(E) is wrong for the same reason as (D). The viewpoints are not essentially equivalent.
