The correct is A, but why...?

I choice answer D.

Didn't the passage did mention women choosing nonprofessional positions over professional? (A)

Though the two kinds of jobs are mentioned, the passage never mentions women purposely choosing professional over non-professional jobs. Professional jobs are discussed in paragraphs 3 and 4, and non-professional jobs are discussed at the end of the last paragraph.

The "specialization" that (D) mentions can be inferred from the lawyer example (trusts and estates), which allows the women to control their own schedules. I agree, the "more desirable" part of the choice makes it less than ideal, but it's still correct.

I think I just got this one! There's a distinction between women being forced to choose nonprofessional positions over professional ones and what the passage says about nonprofessional women. While it may seem at first that lines 52 to 55 support answer choice A, that part is referring to teachers and school administrators, both of which are professional I believe. The other answer choices explicitly refer to things that the passage says women are forced to choose. The passage just says that nonprofessional women tend to be concentrated in certain jobs, not that women choose nonprofessional jobs over professional jobs.
