Q8

by judy.kang020 Thu Jan 08, 2015 1:18 am

Can somebody tell me why (A) would be wrong? I understand why (D) is the correct answer, but the passage does not seem to support the idea that the effects would be pronounced by the El Nino phenomenon. Lines 23-26 only provides support for the idea that the effects would either mask, or mimic... I don't see how "mimic" would translate into "pronounced" here?

thanks!

In this context, saying it makes the cooling effect more "pronounced than it actually is" means cools it more than the volcanic eruption itself did, which is what happens. Does that help clarify?

(A) is not the answer, therefore, because it's supported. (D), as you say, is correct — it ISN'T supported — because there isn't a feedback loop mentioned that causes the masking.
