Hey Karen,

The sentence about the scholars in question says: "...while such nonacademic intellectuals as Simone Weil and Erich Auerbach were trying to define the qualities that made these epic accounts of the Trojan War and its aftermath great poetry..."

With that knowledge, let's go to the answers:

(A) Homer never moved to peripheral issues; the specialists did. Either way, that's not what Weil and Auerbach did!

(B) Voila! That's exactly what our sentence says!

(C) Auerbach and Weil weren't interested in history; they were only interested in poetry for poetry's sake.

(D) This is way too broad. Auerbach and Weil only cared about Homer, not the study of the epic tradition.

(E) Again, Auerbach and Weil weren't concerned with other critics, only with the poetry of Homer.

Hope that helps!
